my twin girls were born in december and I seem to remember warm stuff being useful, but also given in abundance and they gre out of it very quickly, so perhaps a cute hat each (different coloured ones, ours were known as pink hat and white hat for weeks!!) and a toy they can grow into?

I would go for blankets - you can get some beautiful ones (cashmere ones if you can afford it). When I had my twins we seemed to need so many for settling them here and there and propping them up and keeping them upright and swaddling them etc

When my friend had twin boys, I got someone to make them a huge fleece blanket each with their initial appliqued in one corner in opposing colours (so, blue blanket/red initial, red blanket/blue initial). She loved them as they were big enough to grow with the babies and use for picnics/den making etc. as well as just blankets.
