Hi,

My bf has a dd(9.5) who is half indian (dad's side). This year she has got very self concious about dark hair on her legs and will not go out with them uncovered. Things have come to a head over her runningo ut of clean school trousers and only having skirts left. Cue lots of tears and anguish. Eventually bf gave in and gave her some skin coloured tights to wear but dd was still upset and self concious.

I'd like a mn verdict on whether its too early to let her shave/depilate/wax/whatever?

dd is already not v confident about how she looks even though she is (by everyone elses' account a stunning child)

bf is in a real quandry.

any ideas?

Bless her... A little girl in my son's class at school had the same issue (both parents Indian). Parents didn't let her shave till she went to secondary school, by which time she was being teased a lot.

Some kids are cruel. If she wants to get rid of leg hair I think you should let her do it.

Oh it's terrible when they don't know how gorgeous they are - my 10yo is the same.
She hasn't noticed her hairy legs yet, thank goodness, and wears her underarm hair with pride
I would hesitate just because really there's no going back. I would try to convince her to wait a bit longer but if she's really unhappy and being teased then there really isn't anything wrong with going ahead.
