How to deal with conflicting cultural influences

I'm basically asking to see if anyone can point me in the direction of resources or support groups on this topics to help my ex who seems to be struggling me tally with the effects of identifying with 2 very different cultures.

Ex is originally from a very poor muslim majority country. Came to the UK aged 14, studied here and gained citizenship and has integrated well in to society. However some of the beliefs and ideals he grew up with are totally in conflict with the British way of life and I am coming increasingly worried about his mental health as it seems like he is struggling to find a balance between the two cultures and as far as I can see he is struggling with his own identity.

Has anyone experienced similar and is able to point us in the direction of literature/research on the topic. A quick google brough up the term bicultural stress but I wasnt able to find many resources using that as a key word.

It's great that you're looking for resources and support groups to help your ex navigate their bicultural identity. Bicultural stress is a valid concern, and it's important to find ways to manage it effectively.
Multicultural Mental Health Resource Centre: This Canadian organization provides resources, webinars, and support for individuals dealing with issues related to culture, diversity, and mental health. Their website has a wealth of information on the topic of bicultural identity.
British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy: The BACP is a professional organization for counsellors and psychotherapists in the UK. Their website has a directory of therapists who specialize in working with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds.
"Bicultural stress and coping strategies of Asian American and Asian international college students": This article by J.L. Wong and K.P. Wong, published in the Journal of Multicultural Counseling and Development, explores the experiences of bicultural stress among Asian American and Asian international college students.
"Bicultural stress and adolescent risk behaviors in a community sample of Latinos and non-Latino European Americans": This article by A.L. Zeiders et al., published in Cultural Diversity and Ethnic Minority Psychology, examines the relationship between bicultural stress and risk behaviors among Latino and non-Latino European American adolescents.
"Biculturalism and identity": This book by J.W. Berry, published by Lawrence Erlbaum Associates, provides a comprehensive overview of biculturalism and its effects on identity development.

I believe that this cannot be fought, simply people have to accept this, it takes a long time.

It's great that you are turning to resources and support for your ex-husband. Bicultural stress is a real phenomenon experienced by people trying to navigate and reconcile conflicting cultural values and norms. Here are some resources that may be helpful:

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI): This organization provides education, advocacy and support for people with mental illness and their families. They have resources specific to cultural diversity and mental health.

British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP): BACP is a professional association for counsellors and psychotherapists in the UK. I found out about them when I was writing with ethical dilemma essay topics . I hope this will help you, good luck!
