Hi everyone

I am new to mumsnet and expecting my first baby in January 2008. I am an Indian Mauritian and my DH is black west indian, we are so excited as we do not know how the baby will look and keep making suggestion about the hair, colour etc. But what we already know is that we will love this child and give the best we can. I know it will be hard sometimes but it is about teaching your children the values in life and offering them the best of both culture so that they are proud of their origins.

Congratulations Larina on the pending birth of your new baby. The most important thing that a baby needs is love and security. You and your DH are already providing that and I know that you will be exemplary role models for both your cultures.

My DH is white (Irish origin) and I'm black (Jamaican origin) and we are planning to take our 3yo DTS to both the areas where their grandparents hail from when they are older so that they can embrace for themselves their heritage.

Best of luck!

Hi Larina. Congratulations! What a wonderful mix your little one will be! . My son has Irish-Jamaican-Guyanese heritage (and of course he is a Norf Laaandaaaaner - very important!). He is almost 3 now and is the best thing that ever happened to me. Good luck and let us know when the little sproglet arrives xx

what lovely messages. I have just joined mumsnet and am expecting my first in may. I am irish and my DH is Indian and we are both so excited about how handsome/pretty our bundle will be. both cultures will be embraced but he/she will be an east londener through and through. x

i am jamaican-scottish and my dp is african-american (and claims some native american too!). we are expecting in June and are looking forward to it.

at the moment, we live in predominantly white Denmark, so it will be interesting . . .

won't everyone in the world end up mixed race eventually? My mixed race european/centrl asian DS is divine. People stop me in shops to admire him!!

Shitemum · 16/01/2008 16:14

My 2 DDs are half Peruvian and half Scottish. They are paler than I thought they would be!
congrats and good luck.

Your baby will be gorgeous for sure.

My DS is one quarter Seychellois (African, Asian mix)threequarters "white", and if I hadn't been there at the time I'd never have believed I could produce such a beautiful child.. apart from the fact that he looks very like his Dad.
