Positive images for son on TV and DVD

My son is four and I am finding it difficult to find any positive representation of himself on the box. I'm mixed race (Irish and Caribbean) and dh is African.

We have all the channels of SKY and used to find Everybody Hates Chris hilarious, but that no longer comes on. He finds Cbeebies boring now, but isn't interested in CBBC.

Does anyone know of any programmes or DVDs?

"Heroes" has a mixed-race boy called Micah who is very decent, talented, and quite handsome. His mother is very blond and his father is very African. All three feature in the series with their special abilities.

No and that's why I don't bother with TV channels for them. My DTS (mixed race - afro-caribbean (me)/white DH) like watching DVDs of Thomas the Tank Engine and the engines are all different colours so that, to me, is a good way of demonstrating how those of different colours can get on.

Star Trek (original series) was a pioneer in having a black scientist as a regular and important team member (Lt Uhuru) and Deep Space 9 had a black commander (Sisco).

Whitney Houston starred as the Fairy Godmother in a version of Cinderellathat had a host of actors of different races. Cinders was played by Brandy, the Prince by an Oriental guy, his mother was Whoopi Goldberg and his father by a white guy. Race was inconsequential and it is a fantastic version of the classic story.

I have just been reading this article about the first person to perform open heart surgery - he was an African-American. I plan to use info like this to highlight to my boys that opportunities for them are boundless .

Thank you both for your comments. Heroes is a bit too old for ds, although I love it myself.

Cinderella is a good one, also reminds me of the Wiz.

Also started watching Fresh Prince again (soo funny).
