Myleene Klass said something really lovely about her pregnancy

I'm not a fan of hers, but read a little Q&A thing with her recently. She said that her baby was going to be a real mix of races, and that 'multicultural babies are the future of this country' or something like that. I thought it was really lovely, very positive and uplifting.

what about those of us with boring mono-raced / mono-cultured babies ?

MissM · 13/05/2007 19:56

Well this message is on the multicultural families thread, so I just thought I'd share it with people who might come on here. I wasn't trying to make any kind of suggestion.

It's lovely to see a 'celeb' mum-to-be looking so radiant. Her face has filled out along with her boobs and the obvious bump.

She hasn't hidden herself away ala, Mrs Beckham.

Good luck to her.

I like her too!

iirc, the UK has one of the fastest growing group of mixed race children and therefore mixed (or inter?) ethnic relationships (is that the right term?) in the world.

It has at last been recognised as an ethnic group.

lemonaid · 13/05/2007 20:11

NDP - As per umpteen "Let's investigate your DNA" programs recently, those of us who think we have mono-raced / mono-cultured babies probably don't (well, not mono-raced, anyway).

UnquietDad · 13/05/2007 20:14

I'm all for multiculturalism, but I was a bit pissed off once when a very PC person I work with described the area I lived in - admittedly very white and mddle-class - as a "stagnant little monoculture".

Mercy · 13/05/2007 20:24

aDad, what a ridiculous comment from your colleague.

I know Mylene is mixed race too but I can't remember her background - part Austrian and ??

Filipino

tullytwo · 13/05/2007 22:52

Daddy is an Irish boy - a dubber I think

DimpledThighs · 13/05/2007 22:54

yes it is not implying that mixed race babies are the future but multicultural ones. You can be single () race and still multicultural.

edam · 13/05/2007 23:03

NDP's comment reminds me of that Kath Burke/Harry Enfield sketch, where Waynetta Slob gets all upset because little Spudulike is being teased for not having a brown sister or brother. "I wanna braaan baby".

MissM · 15/05/2007 18:56

And then she says "like all the other mums."
