Does anyone have any tasty ideas for both the adults and children?
I tried some delicious roasted plaintain at a festival once, it tasted as if it was honey glazed - does any one have any idea of the recipe?

sorry, I can't help with the plantain - sounds lovely - but I can recommend this way of doing corn on the cob:

Pull the leaves back but don't cut them off
Strip out the stringy bits and then, keeping the leaves pulled back, put the cobs into a bucket of water for about 30 minutes so they soak it up.
Put the leaves back down and tie the end of each cob with a bit of string.
Put them onto a very hot BBQ and they steam cook inside their leaves in about 10 minutes - really tasty!

have a great party!

Not the person to ask as at ds's 3rd birthday tea we had sausages in rolls with tomato ketchup and cake to finish.

Everyone was full and very happy.

I doubt you'd want to honey-roast plantain, it's pretty sweet on its own.

Shishkabobs go down well, so do burgers and frankfurters.

you can just bbq plantain in its skin, it's delicious

I do greek chicken all the time in the summer.

Marinade is loads of olive oil and equal amounts of lemon juice, loads of chopped/crushed garlic, and fresh thyme/rosemary. I use a whole pack of herbs when doing enough chicken for 8 - 10 people.

Get large plastic tub the night before the bbq, mix marinade in tub, throw in loads of chicken thighs/drumsticks and mix up. I usually leave it in frige overnight and then turn again in the morning.

BBQ as you would any chicken, I find kids don't want the 'green' bits so i wipe the herbs off before I do their bits.

oooh...and chunks of chicken wrapped in bacon with a bit of whole grain mustard, on skewers is delicious!

Bananas with icecream for desert!

babyonboard · 05/06/2006 13:31

mmm...bananas and icecream..

one fairly obvious tip...don't do skewered veg with cherry tomatoes on the bbq!
burnt tongues is not a good thing..lol..

make a marinade of BBQ sauce & jamaican curry powder(as much or as little as you like) Marinade boneless chicken breasts 4 about 30mins (or overnight if you prefere) cook in oven first then place on barby for that barby smoked flavour a big favourite at all of my BBQ partys.PS dont waste the left over sauce pour rest over chicken b4 placing in the oven the more marinade the better.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The chicken marinades sound yummy. BOB, thanks for the cherry tomato tip.

Crunchie, I'm glad it's not just my ds that refuses meat with 'green things' on.

I often grill plaintain, but it didn't taste like the one at the festival.

Thanks all, I prob. go for the chicken drumsticks, shish kebabs (and sausage in bap).
