Hair braiding ? Can anyone braid hair and not charge £50!

Anyone is surrey area ? All the salons charge £50! I have 3 girls , when the baby is older this will cost me £150! Ridiculous :(

But hopefully by the time the baby is older they will be doing each others'.

You could teach yourself using books (I have this one) and videos. Get one of those plastic doll heads with hair (search under styling or training head) and practise. I taught myself in a few weeks and then have got neater and faster over time.

About 5-7 days for corn rows and slightly longer if I do a whole head of single braids, but my kids have quite soft hair that comes out easily due to their heritage. If your children have tighter curls then they can last several weeks depending on the style you use. The smaller the braids or corn rows, the longer they tend to last.

Once you start doing your kids hair get them sitting down in front of their favourite film and give them lots of breaks. You will need to get a rat-tailed comb for sectioning and some decent hair cream. Thanks a lot :) the trouble I have is one child has soft hair and anything I do to it it last half a day , she comes out of school looking a bit of a state , where' as my eldest has really curly hair , I can put a few plaits in and it will last nearly a week, as for the baby lord knows how hers will turn out !

A way to maintain the hairstyles is to cover it at night. A bandana or specifically a headscarf from a hair shop should work, if tied so it doesnt come off at night the hair should last at least 2 weeks

I don't know surrey well but is driving into croydon or mitcham a lot of effort? You can get a head done there for £20! There are a few hairdressers within 5 mins of west croydon train station! Where I am in south London they charge between £15 and £20
for children and I have s friend in Wandsworth who does it for that price!

Wow really ? Croydon isn't far from me at all we go there often. Do you have any names in particular ? And do you have to make an appointment , are they good with mixed race hair braiding as I find there's becomes loose quickly if we don't have extensions added .

The reality is that most plaits don't last more than 2 weeks, even in Afro hair! Extensions will help lengthen the process but only slightly! U usually don't have to make an appointment, but it may help to go there as early as you can as on a weekend there will likely be a wait! After one visit you should take a business card and then book but walking in and waiting if your happy to do so is no problem. I'm 15 mins up the road by car and I have an excellent salon on my road which I can personally recommend, but that may be far for you! You should have no problem by West Croydon station though and you can drop the kids and runstrollto the shop!

Wow I did not know they charge so much for kids braiding. I have twin 6 year olds girls. I try to do their hair every Sunday lol. It saves me and them from going through a bad time every morning. We suffer one night a week to not touch their hair all week. If you corn roll (west Indian way) then I find that because the plait sits on top of the hair it gets roughed up easier and can look messy in two days. I mostly tend to plait for the more Caucasian type hair even though my children are extremely mixed black children. Miniature French plaits lay down in the hair and tend to stay fresher looking for longer. Hope this helps someone!! Oh yeah, I learned on a girls world, only child and had to use my own imagination. Then adults wanted me to do their hair when I was a teenager. Like anything it's practise, Good luck
