tax credits: anybody ever won an appeal?

Our tax credits renewal states we've been overpaid last year by £900 and they will deduct it from this year's payments. I was on mat leave last year, but duly rang up in April 09 and gave a fairly accurate estimate of our earnings, stating the terms of my mat leave and even including the fact I'd be paid for 4 weeks hol on top of the mat pay. the chap was very helpful, worked everything out for us and that's how he came to the amount we were paid last year. So I'm going to send in an appeal letter, as I don't see how they could be £900 out. £90 out would be acceptable, but £900 is quite a difference.

Just wondering if anybody ever manages to win these appeals though?

Hi, yes I won an appeal the year before last. I gave DH wages from his P60 as his estimated earnings. As business was not good that year he did not receive a pay rise so the estimate was in fact correct to the penny. I was over paid by £1200.

I stated that it could not be my fault as every fact I gave them was correct.

The person I spoke to on the phone before making the appeal said nearly everyone wins as they are in such chaos they don't know what they are doing.

Good Luck

I appealed in 2004 after being overpaid by £1200 due to a computer input error which meant that although everything on my award notice was correct the information on their computer was wrong.

It took 9 months and the involvement of my MP to get it sorted though

i have won 2 appeals.
once when they deleted my kids off the system and said i had no living children, and once when i informaed them of changes but they carried on making payments based on prevoius details.

i have just sent off my award notice for this year, thye have not recorded any of the changes i have told them this year, in feb and jan, not even the name and address of my new employer, or my partners pay rise nothing. i have been really worried about this since i got the renewal form i should have chased them up but have had three bereavments since february so tax credits not on the top of my mind. Do you think we will get a fine although from this thread soundes like we will get deductions if we've been over paid.
