Really stupid question about mat leave and ctc

thislittlesisterlola · 16/05/2010 15:22

I realise this is a very stupid question and I am rather to even ask...

I am about to go on mat leave, when my baby is born when do the ctc and child benefit start?
(I will be on statutory mat pay from 6 weeks topped up by 1/2 salary then after 12 weeks of that I am just on statutory)

I did the online calculator and it said if on mat leave to select working (as i am still employed) It worked out that Dp and I are entitled to ctc.

I do find this all very confusing.
If anyone knows I would be very grateful.

TIA

Lola

You do not automatically get any.

When you get your bounty pack in hospital you get the forms for CB but have to send off you babys birth certificate.

For CTC you need to ring them up and they will send you all the information you need.

Both are backdated by up to three months ( I think)

I think CTC is calculated on a previous year basis so it will be worked out on what you earnt last year rather than what you are earning currently, although I think you can request that it is calculated on a current year basis, which I have to do soon as I am being made redundant in Aug.

If this is wrong someone will corrent me I am sure

To apply for CB and CTC, you need to send of the child's birth certificate, so the sooner you get baby registered the better.
IIRC, it took abo9ut 6 weekis for my payments to come through, but it is back-dated to date of birth

x-post.

When I had ds1, I didn't get a bounty pack, but it's easy enough to get the correct phone numbers etc for these things.
I asked at the job centre and they gave me a list of phone numbers

Ok, thank you for your very quick replies and making sense of it all for me. Will call the tax office and ask for all the forms to be sent out. I'm under the impression you the short copy of the birth certificate is that correct?
Both Dp and I have our p60's etc so hopefully have all relevant info.
How accurate is the online calculator does anyone know? Sorry for the all questions.

Thanks again

Lola

On-line calculator isn't 100% accurate. I'm sure it is just the short copy you send, and they get it back quickly.

great, thank you very much
