CHAPS payment from savings account - possible?

We are completing on a house on the 11th, and now I'm worried we're not going to be able to transfer our deposit to the solicitor on time!

The money is sitting in an Alliance & Leicester savings account, the terms of which say that we can only make payments to our linked current account. If this is a normal BACS payment it can take 3-5 working days. As we will need another day to transfer from our current account to our solicitors that could be too tight.

Need to talk to them tomorrow obviously, but can anyone reassure me that they'll happily make this a same-day CHAPS type payment?

I don't see why not but they will probably charge you £30 for the privilege.

yes you can do this - contact them first thing tues as the chaps transfers take place before 11am each day and will arrive with the other bank by 4pm on the same day - there is a £30 fee-good luck with the move!

Thanks for the advice - but for some reason they don't allow CHAPS from savings, only current accounts!

However they reckon 3-4 days for BACS with today counting as day 1 so we should be in the clear by Friday fingers crossed....

Have to say in general I wouldn't recommend A&L (or "Santander" as they are now called). Seem to be lots of issues with website and phone banking, plus silly rules like the above.
