I got a Nationwide Visa one for this purpose a few years ago as they charge less in fees etc for use abroad.

Still use it now and found them fine, no problems.

Visa or Mastercard are accepted pretty much everywhere in Europe. I would go for one of those.

Definitely NOT American Express - crap in Europe.

Visa or Mastercard your best bet.

nationwide have the advantage that is you use a hole in the wall or purchaes in a shop and use their card they do not charge you for using the card if in europe - all other credit and debit card make a charge.

With onlt 5 weeks to go though you are going to have to move quickly to get it all set up....

Hello,

May be a bit late now, but MoneySavingExpert has a whole section about the cheapest credit cards to use abroad, with a handy wizard that starts out by asking how soon you're travelling.

Hope you enjoy your trip!
