Tax Credits cock up...

DH and I filled in our Tax Credits claim, all the details as required, and were delighted to get a letter saying we were to get £432 a month. This was a big boost and much needed as we weren't sure where we were going to get the money for babies things from, we currently have nothing to spare after paying rent and bills. BUT on the day the payment was due we received 2 letters saying we were only getting £23 a month [shocked]! Can they do this? And how come they didn't work it out that way to start with if that is all we're getting? Bit unfair to build people's hopes up and then screw with 'em!

Do they say why? Have they overpaid you previously and are clawing this back?

This is the first time we have claimed so there has been no overpayment, and no, they don't say why this sudden change.

Will it change as of april though? we got different amounts depending on tax year. Also did you ask for 90 day backpay?

FalafelAtYourFeet · 28/03/2010 15:40

Are you sure it didn't say £432 for the year?

FalafelAtYourFeet · 28/03/2010 15:40

(432 a month sounds a very high figure, tbh. )

3andahalfmonkeys · 28/03/2010 15:48

have you tried putting info into entitledto.co.uk - is fairly accurate and will guide you a little as to what has gone wrong

purpleturtle · 28/03/2010 15:52

£23 a month sounds a bit low though. I thought the minimum payment was £40.

ShinyAndNew · 28/03/2010 15:54

Falafel we get more than a month. We get £169 per week. This is the highest allowance for working wtc/ctc for two children over 1.

BranflakeGirl · 28/03/2010 17:21

It said a month Falafel, I was surprised tbh.

3andahalfmonkeys - Backpay? Never heard anything about this. How do we apply for that?
