Long story, and not sure how much I can face thinking about to write here.

Basically MIL has offered to be guarantor for rented house we are applying for, but she is retired, wondering what they will want to know about her?

My mum was guarantor for me when I was a student but I know things have tightened up a LOT since then

We had to get both ILs to sign for us as they are retired and their income has to be a certain amount of times the rent, even if they don't have rent/mortgage themselves to pay.

V. odd, and nonsense IMO.

Depends on the letting agency, but ours wanted proof of their pensions and addresses, bank details and they had to sign all the same forms as me and DP.

thankyou

So they accepted a combined income?
dps mother is retired, his father earns the most out of any of our parents, but he lives in dubai, my dad doesnt earn enough. Neither does my mum, but she works for the business she and my stepfather own together, so if joint income is acceptable then hopefully I can use them.

Trying very hard to stay positive, but its so depressing, we are not just moving house, moving area too so i can finish my degree and get a proper job and earn enough money so we wouldnt have to live like this...
