Who does mortgages for people with credit problems?

I need one that does 100%ltv mortgages for first time buyers.

There was an item about this on Money Box on R4 recently - I think they suggested using a broker - try some of these

when you go to a broker - do you have to pay - how much is it ..ish?

Not necessarily, custy, according to this lot - they get a fee from the lender I think so you don't always have to pay one as well. You do with some but the percentage will vary, you'd have to ask individually.
