Do I have to declare my housing bens and WTC and CTC in my tax return?

I stupidly submitted my tax return in a huge goddam hurry this year and I am sure that I have not done it correctly.

One question I have is whether I should have declared my housing benefit and working tax and child tax credits as income? Would seem to be bizarre to do so, but then maybe I needed to???

Thanks!

Give them(tax credits people)a call if you get no answer on here. I've always found them very helpful.

thanks, solo. i had such a panic today that the obvious course of action escaped me!!!

WTC and CTC don't go on your tax return. Don't know about HB but look on hmrc.gov.uk at the helpsheets for your tax return.

If you ring them for help don't call the tax credits side, because they won't be able to help you. It is your normal tax office you need to call (again you can get the number from the website).

Housing Benefit, CTC and WTC are all non-taxable and should not be reported anywhere on your tax return.

Ha! see, someone on here always knows!

thanks, everyone.

i thought that that type of income would not be taxable... reason i asked is because a friend of mine mentioned that some benefit he receives is taxable. but i think that it was mortgage protection insurance he received after having been made redundant. i have had such a panic over my tax and the amount i had to pay for 08/09 that i could not hear what he was saying past benefits and tax!!!!

thanks again.
