Do you pay tax and NI on SMP?

It's a long time since I received SMP and I don't remember anything being taken off my payments.

My friend is due to go on ML and has been told by her employer that she will receive less than £123.06. I can't remember the exact figure but was roughly £105. Is this right? I've just looked on a couple of websites but it doesn't say anything about tax and NI.
