Am I right to expect some kind of refund??

Hi,

I paid £32 for car hire from Ebookers for Hertz in Glasgow airport. I paid with my Maestro card, the only card I had. I saw the website said a credit card was needed but assumed as they accepted my debit card as payment that it wouldn't be an issue.
I later realised the booking was incorrect and rang them. I had to pay another day's rental as incorrect times had been quoted. So it now came to £64.
On arrival at the airport, they refused to hire car as I did not have a valid credit card. They said we could have car for £550 deposit but we could not afford this. We were given Hertz leaflet and advised to claim a refund. We then paid Enterprise and got another hire car.
However we are being refused a refund by Ebookers and Hertz. They are saying it is own own fault and website states credit card is needed. I still feel like we are having to pay for a service we did not receive.
Enterprise also stated that the charge for car hire was £56 and we were paying £150. Instead we were refunded £108 and when I queried it, the charge was quoted incorrectly so we ended up paying a smaller deposit.
I just feel we are really out of pocket over the whole thing and Hertz/Ebookers are being so unhelpful and refusing to compromise. Any ideas on next option? Direct communicatoin, whether it be phone or email seems to bring no luck...

hmmm tricky - I've never looked at e-bookers - but I've looked at most of the car hire places in recent months and they DO all require a credit card for the deposit, (although one or 2 do say that cash/cheque can be used at some of their locations if arranged in advance).

Thanks awas, seems like might just need to accept as a loss!
