child tax credit nightmare...again

i recently reclaimed tax credit for my 18 year old son who has restarted college after an 16 month hiatus...took them 3 months to sort out but eventually, when i took it to a formal complaint, they did and he is now on the claim....on the exact day i received the confirmation of the new benefit, i also received a letter telling me that i have been overpaid £750 and they are taking it off me weekly...when i questioned this they inform me that apparently when i phoned to 'reapply' for my benefit in june?? i denied that my son had been on my claim the previous year, this of course is ludicrous, why would i deny it. in fact i informed them of all the changes in circumstances at the exact time they happened and i was paid exactly how they told me i would be, i was paid for 20 weeks after my son left college, then it stopped. My only course of action is to appeal against the decision! i am furious that i now have to justify myself to this rediculous organisation...i was also told that they would listen to the tape of my claim and unless i specifically told them that my son had been part of the claim on the previous year that i really didnt stand a chance of winning the appeal...i am so fed up about the whole situation and wondered if there was anything else i can do other than an appeal that (if my previous experience is anything to go by) take months and endless phonecalls to get sorted...if i'm lucky!!! Any suggestions????
