How long for a building society cheque to clear?

I took an amount out of my building society account but had the building society write a cheque direct to the other person for the money I owe him. Becasue the building society have in effect written the cheque to him should it clear quicker than a normal cheque?

I don't think they do. On the occasions where I have recieved or sent a bankers draft, it has taken the same time to clear as a normal cheque so I think it would be the same IYSWIM.

Thanks. Yes, its still not cleared so looks like it will be taking 5 working days. Oh well.
