Speeding, fist offence: What is likely fine?

Am ashamed to say that I was caught by a speed camera the other day -- 62 mph in a 50 mph zone. The letter scarily says 'fine of up to £1000 and 6 penalty points'.

Does anyone know what the actual fine is likely to be?

Thank you ruby. That sounds less scary.

Points only matter if your job needs a clean licence -- or if you build up more points by further offecne and get banned?

agree £60 and 3 points is usual

(unless you are the guy travelling at 50mph in a 30 zone who ran me over, very nearly killed me, (the impact of hitting me wrote off his car) but he got nothing, 0 points, £0 fine cause he 'had had a shock' (poor man)... between primary school and recreation ground right next to children running across the road sign)
