or something like that.

Just got my Capital One estatement through and nearly fell off my chair for 2 reasons

  1. I apparently missed my last payment so they'd added a £12 late payment fee etc etc to it
  1. Match.com (yes I know ) had taken a payment out on the 25th March (thankfully even with late payment fee and "missing" payment it didn't take me over my credit limit.

Number 2 was silly silly STUPID from me.When I decided to stop using it several months ago I should have cancelled the damn thing - as they continue taking payment until you do DUH!! So several months or carefully and slowly chipping away at the balance and not using the card at all thrown into the ether by my stupidity.

Number 1. OMG don't ever try and call Capital One customers services, it takes about 10 minutes of automated crap before you get a chance to speak to someone. Then instead of saying "how can I help you" I was met with "help Mrs FAQ this Joe Blogg you have missed this payment, and accrued this fee and need to pay us X amount immiditately"

No I don't FARK OFF - I made the payment, it went out of my account nearly 2 weeks before it was due to you. "oh right ok I'll put you through to XXXX department (didn't catch the name). OK great thanks thought I - we'll get this sorted out. No I was immediately CUT OFF. And I had to go through the whole bloody rigmarole again where I was finally put through to the people who needed to sort out my problem.

Then they tried to tell me it was MY fault the payment had been "lost" (they did find it very easily) because I'd apparently put the reference in wrong on my account online..............ermm no I didn't I was sat here at the computer with all the relevant windows open and staring at it. I put NO gaps between the numbers, I didn't miss any numbers off YOU F*CKED UP.

and now I've sat down and worked out how much I'd paid off (once interest had been paid) I've undone 5 months work of clearing debts . It's not the end of the world, the payments are still the same amount but 5 months being careful and diligent about not using it just to throw it all down the bloody pan because I forgot to cancel it

I hate Capital One too, you are not alone.

In fact I hated them so much last November I phoned up to cancel my cards, and after 20 minutes holding and pressing option 3, finally managed to cancel my account. I then looked at my statement and realised I had £94 in cashback due to come to me in January - cue another 20 minute call to try and uncancel my card.

And I forgot to cancel my ISA direct debit too for this tax year - must be something in the water

Oh FAQ you wally, keep plodding away though. At Least you have got into a bood habit.

Capital One are useless to try and get hold of and I'm not suprised you're pissed at them.

Did they refund the £12 charge?

FAQinglovely · 16/04/2009 16:34

well I suppose to be fair to Capital one it's not their fault I forgot to cancel the Match subscription - but still................it was the statement from them which included their cock-up losing my payment that made me realise my stupidity has wasted 5 months of carefully paying off debts

yes apparently they'll refund the £12 charge - although if a payment gets lost again because I haven't put the reference correct (which I DID have correctly already - not had a problem in previous months and I've not amended the payment details at all since I set it up) then they won't refund it because it'll be my fault -
