Family law solicitor needed (pref Leeds area but anywhere will do)

I am overseas and going through a messy divorce and custody case. We are working on a settlement over here (US) but I need to make sure that what I sign will hold in the UK as well. Can anyone recommend an affordable but good solicitor who would be able to help?

Since I do not live in the UK, location isn't necessarily important although, if I do return, I may be in the Leeds area.

TIA

Thank you very much for all the help.

My heart is sinking at the thought of yet another set of legal fees but I guess there is no choice here.

Thank you. I emailed Cornwell Dawson but haven't heard back yet.

Will try some of the others tomorrow. Thanks

Over a week later and I still haven't heard back from Cornwell and Dawson so assume they are not interested.

I'll try some of the others but does anyone have a personal recommendation? I hate to pick a solicitor at random.

Ok, I have had replies from 2 of the firms I emailed yesterday and they both help for different but large sums of money. So, how do I select one?

Responses:

  1. badly worded brief email with their phone number but no information - followed by an email from someone else (with no mention of the first email) at the same firm with a basic but clear message stating their hourly rate.

  2. Other firm sent a very comprehensive email detailing fees, charges, hourly rates (significantly more than the first firm) and how much they want up front . Also requesting an initial phone consultation so they can work out exactly what needs to be done and how much money I am likely to be looking at paying. They also need various documents from me, all notarised which will be hard to get but I would be willing to do this since they seem to know what they are doing. This does sound better, doesn't it?

Does anyone have experience with Kingsley Napley or Reynolds Porter Chamberlain?

Marilyn Stowe is v good. Or how about Anne Braithwaite at Lupton Fawcett? Excellent and quite hard-hitting.
