Can anyone advise re: my dad?

Does my dad (Irish citizen) have any 'rights' if he came to live here in the UK? He lived here for 30 years, but went back 10 years ago. He is now about to be made redundant and in poor health. I would dearly like for him to come back here, possibly to live with us, but want to know if he has any rights to benefits/assistance/housing/healthcare etc over here?

From the looks of this the UK has a reciprocal agreement with Ireland, so he should be able to claim something, but probably best to ask your local CAB.

Thanks OldLady

CAB is definitely my next step.

I'm wondering if he would be entitled to a state pension in the UK - instead of in the Rep of Ireland - at the very least? He did pay NI contributions here for 30 yrs. Not sure how it all works, though...

I'm no expert, but I know that British expats living in Spain get their (British) pension paid over there, and since your dad worked in the UK for so long, I'd think he'll have some sort of entitlement. Best of luck, anyway.
