Probate - anyone know if wills are open to public scrutiny?

I knwo this sounds really bad but I'm inthe middle of a messy divorce with xh. He deliberately managed to run up about £45k of debt with his OW/NW in the months leading up to our split which he is now claiming is joint marital debt. His Nan (who was well off) has died. normally there is NO way I'd ever consider going atfer an inheritance or anything like that but TBH with his behaviour I'm damned if I sit there and let his debts and reckless spending lose me and my kids our home while he coins it in for his nan. I need to know so (hopefully) I can raise it in court (he won't - ahs already lied in court) in the hope that some of his debts can be paid off from his ineritance. Just need to know where I can find out what he did actually inherit.
Thanks.

Yes, apparently you can get the information online, but I don't know how, sorry. Try asking your solicitor.

Your solicitor will b e able to get this info from the Probate Registry. When the Grant of Probate is issued then it is a matter of public record.

Your sols should sort this for you.

info here

If they haven't dealt with her will and got probate yet you may not yet be able to get a copy

Phone your nearest probate registry to request a copy of the will. Full name and address of deceased helps them to trace it. All original wills are kept in a central store so your local office has to send off for it. Think you have to pay a couple of pounds if you want an official stamped copy. I was happy to have a photocopy and got it for free. Took about a week.
