Help tesco asking for more personal/bank details each time I try to checkout.

Trying to do an online shop at tesco (this is about the 8th time I have used them with no problems before) this time though when I go to checkout it is redirecting to site asking for more details about my debit card .

Protect your card from unauthorised use online the blurb says it is a new service by visa giving me enhanced protection by using a password which I will then use each time I use the card online.

It is asking for a lot of details inc all the card details ,date of birth and email address .

Just wondered if anyone has any knowledge of this it just seems a bit dodgy to me .

Yes, everytime I do an online shop with them I have to give my password on checkout - it redirects me.

If you just want to make sure it is ok - I would ring them.

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 13/02/2009 07:45

I have never had to do this, and I've been using them for a good couple of years.

ThePellyandMe · 13/02/2009 07:51

I get that with my visa card. I think its a system run by visa rather than anything to do with Tesco.

I don't get it if I use my debit card.

HappyMummyOfOne · 13/02/2009 07:57

I have this on both my visa debit and credit and lots of sites now use it as an additional safety feature.

Had this on Tesco's for months, Debenhams use it to as well as lots of others. Still not on Amazon yet though which has surprised me.

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 13/02/2009 08:03

you use visa? Ah, I use mastercard, I wonder if that's the reason.

SoupDragon · 13/02/2009 08:03

This is "Verified by Visa" isn't it? It's been around for a while now.

giraffescantdancethetango · 13/02/2009 08:06

I have that, I never fill in any details I cant remember what it is I click but it still lets me buy the shoppin no problem.

bellavita · 13/02/2009 08:13

Hecate - my tesco credit card is mastercard though

CantSleepWontSleep · 13/02/2009 08:16

Been there for yonks with Tesco. I use Mastercard and get it every time. Maybe you've signed up to it hecate, and that's why you don't get the messages any more.

hippipotamiHasLostThreePounds · 13/02/2009 08:17

I have only come across the Verify with Visa system, which I like. But it is only a password iirc, not email address or other personal data...

JackBauer · 13/02/2009 08:28

Does sound like verified by visa thing, but I think to set it up and get the password (which you use oin other sites as well) you have to put in details to show you are who you say you are IYSWIM.
Is apin in the arse, especially as I now have one of those silly pinsentry things for my online banking, I dont see why I cant use that.
grr...mutter mutter

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 13/02/2009 08:30

tesco got me to sign up last week so obviously they're now doing it for all visa. It's fine, just sign up, another password to forget remember.

mumof2222222222222222boys · 13/02/2009 08:47

i had to do this when I used an Abbey card. My normal First Direct Maestro doesn't do it. Yet.

ComeWhineWithMe · 13/02/2009 08:48

I just rang tesco and my bank and it is all legit ,thanks for all the replies.
