I use the money saving expert one for our annual budget.

I'm not organised enough to track monthly expenditure. I think MS Money use to link up with bank accounts and do monthly forecasts etc?

Could you arrange for all of your direct debits for bills to all come out on one day (day after payday) then you'll know how much you have left for the rest of the month.

SpandexIsMyEnemy · 04/02/2009 19:25

missis, i try that but my rent can't be changed, I have some money coming into my account weekly, some monthly, some fortnightly, then things like catalogue etc are done 4 weekly - so i get all of a pickle.

might have to try and put everything back to direct debit thou I stopped most of them when I wasn't working.

thanks les will have a looksee.

Can you set up a seperate account for bills?

SpandexIsMyEnemy · 04/02/2009 19:43

unfortunately no - I currently take some money out weekly and give it to my parents for things like rent/nursery fees etc so I deffo can't spend that bit.

I have my own ones I did on excel Ican email them and you can adjust them to suit.

I have a page for a week and a summary sheet.

We have two accounts - one that all of the bills etc come out of, and I've got a spreadsheet to tell us how much we need to pay into that each month. Whatever's left in our cheque account is ours to spend.

skramble · 05/02/2009 23:30

I have a seperate bill account. I have a bit in my diray too where I have listed all the direct debits for each month.

Anything left goes inmy current account and my CB goes in a savings accoun, but never stays there it pays for the kids activities mostly.

I can't work with it all in one account, I know what I need to leave in my bill account and the overdraught covers any direct debits that come off early or if maney is late going in.

Babies everywhere linked to Money Manager Ex on another thread. I started using it last night, and it is very simple.

elliephant · 07/02/2009 21:02

I'm using Money Manger Ex and have become quiet obsessed with it's pie charts and reports, which track with alarming accuracy my careful spendthrift ways. ( cringe every time it makes that kerching sound when I register a spend!!) However can't figure out how to set an annual budget up on it - can anyone help?

lou031205 · 08/02/2009 09:29

If you go to budgeting, and click, a box will come up called 'budgeting year calculator'. click 'add' then type 2009 and click 'OK'.

Under 'budgeting' you will now see '2009'. If you click 2009, A sheet will come up with all your categories, and fields for frequency, income, expenditure, estimated and actual...

Double click a category, and it will bring up a box where you can select whether it is an income or an expense, how often, and how much.

At the top of that sheet, it will give you an annual estimated income, and expenditure, so you can see if you need to trim or will have a little spare.

I have most of our direct debits coming out of the bank at the beginning of the month so I can work out how much we have left over. It works pretty well and we only have the one account so everything is there.

Thanks Lou, got it now - that's tonight's entertainment sorted
