Anyone with experience of letting their property without using an agent?

A mate of mine has just been badly stung by a letting agent that has gone bust owing her £2,500 in rent! I also am finding the fees pretty hard to swallow but there again, I don't know how difficult it is to let out a flat on your own. Any thoughts on this very gratefully received!

we are agentless and it's fine. financiallly, its the difference between breaking even and making a loss so didnt even consider using an agent. we advertised in loot and gum tree and had tenants in with two weeks. got contracts and legal advice from landlords.co.uk, and have never had a missed payment or problem.

Ah! That's fab news! I'm in the same boat & was considering biting the bullet & making a loss for the convenience but have heard several horror stories that make me think I should go it alone! Will go to landlords.co.uk right away! Thanks a lot.
