We are currently privately renting and get a housing benefit top up to my dh wages to pay the rent. We are planning to relocate to Southampton this year but I have no idea how much worse or better of (i doubt!) wel be till dh finds employment! We have a 4 yr old, 2 yr old and baby under 1. Any ideas or prev experience???

Try checking on www.entitledto.co.uk

Good luck with it all.

You may find that benefits are restricted if they class your DH as voluntarily leaving employment.

He may be made redundant in March anyway due to change of company. I know you cant claim jobseekers if you leave voluntarily but even if you move town?Xx

Obviously if he is made redundant that JSA will likely apply.

Moving town and leaving a previous job by choice can still be sanctioned by the benefits office. They will expect employment to be gained before the move etc. You have to have an extemely valid reason for the move otherwise sanctions will apply. They have been known to expect one partner to move and the other to follow once employment has been gained.

Goodness me! That makes things difficult. Im previously from southampton (when I was a kid) but dh has no friends or family where we want to move to. We dont drive either so getting a job there when he`d have to get the train would be difficult. Thanks for the warning!
