you have to re-register every 12 months?

(we're getting lots of fake calls for a famous actor at our phone number / address at the moment .. from loan companies and insurance companies )

here's the link

claricebeansmum · 07/07/2008 21:03

No - but thanks
I know that overseas calls are not part of the TPS so we get stung with the automated messages telling us we have won a villa in Florida.
Is it the same for the mailing people?

Um... according to their faq you only need to renew every 12 months if you do NOT have a residential number. I.e. businesses.

RubberDuck · 07/07/2008 21:07

(although I note lately that several companies are saying "oh but you need to reregister" to get out of you reporting them to be fined..)

Twiglett · 07/07/2008 21:08

BT just told me you have to re-register

OP posts:
margoandjerry · 07/07/2008 21:11

that's terrible.

I have an ongoing rage at BT who call me on a nightly basis to sell me some old crap when I am on the TPS. They tell me they are exempt from this because I am a customer of theirs and therefore the TPS doesn't apply to me

RubberDuck · 07/07/2008 21:11

They're either talking bollocks or your home number is registered as a limited company or other corporate entity:

FAQ

  1. Do I need to renew my subscription with the TPS?

If you have registered a residential number or a number belonging to a sole trader or (except in Scotland) partnership, you do not need to renew. However, if you have registered a number on to the Corporate TPS belonging to a Limited company, Plc or other large organisation, you are required to renew annually. In this case TPS will send you an e-mail each year to notify you of this. Failure to renew will result in your number(s) being removed from the CTPS data file. Please be aware that if you change your telephone package, obtained broadband or change telephone line service provider for example, we may receive notice from your current/old line service provider that your line has been made inactive. In this case your number would be removed from the file as the service is only intended for live numbers.

Beaten to it by a rubber duck ... gah!

tissy · 07/07/2008 21:12

nope, have just put my numbers in, and I'm already registered- haven't done it for years!

Hassled · 07/07/2008 21:13

I just tried it and it told me I was already registered.

What more and more wankers companies are doing though is ringing from outside the UK - my understanding is that if the registered office is outside the UK then the TPS rules don't apply, so they can plague you quite happily.

RubberDuck · 07/07/2008 21:13

TBH I'd report BT.

British Gas seem equally incompetent at the moment - have had a phone call a week from them for about 5 weeks in a row and each time we've told them that we're not interested, please remove us from their database. Got really shirty with the last one and there's been a two week gap, so fingers crossed.

RubberDuck · 07/07/2008 21:13

WWB: nyeh nyeh blows a raspberry

Hulababy · 07/07/2008 21:14

Didn't know that - have updated; thanks.

IdrisTheDragon · 07/07/2008 21:17

I just tried and it said I am already registered and haven't done it for more a year.

BobbyGrantycal · 07/07/2008 21:21
