... or am I going to be charged some ridiculous interest rate?
Living with parents at present with DS.
At least 18 month wait for council housing.
Private rent at least £700 - 800 a month.
Can afford to do shared ownership if housing association accept me. But will I be able to get a mortgage in the current climate.
My salary is around £25k.

HAve you paid the CCJ off now? Most lenders want you to have at least paid it before they will offer you a reasonable deal.

Assuming it is paid but still sitting on your records, you can get a mortgage but will have to declare it. You will probably not be eligible for the very cheapest deals but should be able to avoid the very high deals you see offered by sharks mainly. Have you got a financial advisor? He or she should know which of the lenders will consider you. Don't be embarrassed - many people have FAR worse than one CCJ and still get credit and mortgages.

HTH.
