I wonder if there is any ground on which to take the local education dept to court?

All the local primary schools in our area are deemed failing and are in special measures, the only one that isnt and that is an excellent school is obviously hugely oversubscribed that we stand gnats chance in hell of getting in.
The answer for me and many other local families is to go private.
This fucks me right off-cant I get a rebate on some tax or other, or indeed su the bloody council for failing to provide the education demanded by the state?

er probably not. How recent are the Ofsted's you are reading or is it all hearsay ? Have you actually visited any of them ?Alternatively move or apply for schools outside the area.

They have a duty to provide education for your kids and to put special measures in place when required. But that is the limit of their obligations. Some schools in special measures do turn round quite quickly.

You wouldn't expect folks with no kids to get a rebate on council tax would you? So why would you because you would prefer not to use the provided service.

Oh i know what Ive said is complete lala land stuff but it does grate on me that my local schools are really shite.
If only it was as simple as "moving" or applying out of the area.

The nearest school that is any good is not in our catchment and whilst we have applied we were turned down.

In an ideal world I would live near to a fab school-I dont so pay to send my ds to one instead. that i have a rant about it on here is one of my few perks!!!

Exactly Jura, they have promised to rebuild my catchment school by 2210 but havent started it yet and the land they acuired for it will only be earmarked for them for another few months.
