Portman Building Society - anyone else having problems since those idiots Nationwide bought them out??!!

Ever since the Nationwide took over Portman at the begining of the year we have had nothing but problems with our old Portman mortgage. Nationwide's computer system for some reason doesn't like anything related to Portman (another system apparently), so our mortgage payments don't get paid. So far this year we've had to pay 4 out of 6 of this years payments by physically taking the money out of our bank and paying it over the counter in the Nationwide!! Direct debit details have been triple checked but Nationwide are not electronically 'talking' to Barclays (our bank). Barclays say everything is set up correctly and that Nationwide are not even approaching them for the money. DH lost his stack with N when we received (yet another) non-payment letter - only to be told the DD had been cancelled. At night. 10.30pm to be exact. Arrrrggggghhhhhhhh. They are driving us round the fecking bend. We never had a problem with the Portman in nearly four years of mortgage payments. Lord knows what's this done to our credit rating!!?? When you complain they say there's nothing else they can do???!!! WTF

This does not bode well . . . We were Portman customers and took out a 5 year fix in April. First payment was due on the first of this month. I thought we had too much money in the bank account at the weekend (not a normal occurrence!) and checked the statements. Mortgage has not gone out in spite of our filling in the DD form when we took it out. I rang the Nationwide yesterday and "someone will get back to me". Not yet, they haven't!

we had similar problems but our fixed rate ended so we have legged it to a new lender - sorry I can't be more help

They took the money twice for one payment, but then called to say they'd refunded us for the extra one before we'd noticed it was gone. Then refunded us again .

DH went into the branch and threatened talked with the local mortgages manager but to no useful end.

ScotsLassDownSouth - my sympathies
They have been absolutely crap with us, if the mortgage payment for july doesn't go through we are taking our business elsewhere.

MrsBadger - DH has had the 'chat' with the manager too

Nice to know we aren't the only ones suffering!

I have to say that we've had no problems at all in the switchover. Sorry to hear of those who had.

I always had a sneaky liking for Portman, thinking of them all down there on the sea-front at Bournemouth . . .
