Money saving question: is it still true that it's cheaper to use leccy in the evenings and at weekends?

When I was growing up my mother never ran the washing machine during the day as she said they charged you more for the use of electricity during the daytime. Does anyone know whether this is still true?

There's something called white meter heating. Don't think it applies by default.

Isn'lt that the old economy 7 tariff, but your meter had to be set up for it.

its still exists as economy 7

if you have it you have 2 meters, 1 for your elec in the day and one in the night

units used at night cots less than units usedin the day

Yes it was called economy 7 is now called a 2 rate meter. Sometimes you just have 1 meter with two different readings on.

Be aware that the day time rate is about 1p higher than normal BUT the night time rate is at least half the cost.

This is usually in properties with storage heaters (electric heaters that charge up overnight and release heat gradually through out the day and they can run out of heat) or people who work shifts or have a substantial amount of things running at night. Mainly, washing machine, dishwasher and tumble drier.

I used to work for electric board.
