Child benefit payments when child reaches 18

My daughter turns 18 in June. I believe her child benefit payments will stop August 31st, just before she goes to university in September. Do I need to contact HMRC to let them know what she’s doing or do the payments stop automatically?

It's automatic.

I received a letter a couple of weeks ago, to ask me if she is going onto further college type education and if so to complete something - but she isn’t so last payment is August. So yes, nothing to do it will be automatic.
