Hi, just wondered if anyone can recommend an online tool for me to work out how much I need to save for retirement. Ideally something that will let me put in estimated budgets so I can work out how much we might need to retire early! Thanks in advance!!

Thanks so much all. I will take a good look. I think what I really need is a spreadsheet template to work out some sums but will look at those resources first and try and build one.

We did build our own Motherfucker of all spreadsheets and tracked every single penny that we spent over a year. We sort of did this already anyway but expanded it. We also thought seriously about what we wanted to do. We did a projected incoming money and outgoing money. I have just spent the weekend with a friend from school days, we are 60 this year and both retired, We have very different lifestyles, think of what you enjoy now or what you want to do. Life can remain the same or be very different. We bought a Motorhome, which has an expensive outlay and ongoing costs. She likes to do lots of expensive courses and eats out multiple times a week.

What is harder is adjusting for inflation and looking at interest rates, we tweak ours to look at the projection in multiple scenarios. We also worked out all projections based till us living to 90, that’s the weirdest thing if we knew our death date we could adjust.

But really it’s what you plan to do as well as the basic living and that is very variable.
