Mortgage application suddenly showing cancelled before exchange, has anyone experienced this?

I need some help.

In Sept 2025 I was approved for a mortgage to buy the house I have been renting for 3 years. Both sets of solicitors are woeful so in Feb I applied for an extension which was approved by Natwest for another 6 months.

I am due to exchange tomorrow so logged in to check a few things on my bank and saw my mortgage has been 'cancelled/declined'. Logged into the mortgage tracker and absolutely no reason why is listed.

Anyone know what has happened and why. Im stressing as I can't speak to anyone until 8am. I could cry I am so stressed. Need some perspective here.

Have you recently taken out any other credit? I was warned not to take on any other debt like a car loan etc until after completion for this reason.

@Bunnybigears no, if anything my debt is less than it was when I applied. I have a bit more on my credit card than I had then but have had a pay rise since.

Has the bank recently merged with another? My friend had this and that was the reason but everything was ok. Here’s hoping it is for you too 🙏

@squirrelnutkins1 it's Natwest and nor heard of a merger. Im so stressed 😫

If you applied in September 2025 and it was valid for 6 months that would take you to March 2025, has the extension been done as a new one as the other one timed out?

I mean is it showing the old approved mortgage on the tracker and the new extension as a separate new one that isn't showing on the tracker.
I think op needs to call NatWest to find out
