I didn’t lose a court case as such, but I racked up a lot of debt during a custody battle. They put a charge on my house and it was paid off when I sold the house.

Thanks.
What does that mean putting a charge on your house? Guessing you owned the house and mortgage paid off.
Did you not offer you a payment plan or you just didn't look into it.
What type.of court is that in? High Court?

I owned the house but had a mortgage. With a charge, they basically then own that amount of your house (however much the debt is). So when the house is sold they get their money (assuming there is enough equity). That money was owed to my solicitors, not to the court. It’s quite standard for a charge to be applied for legal debt.

Can you give any more context here? What was the court case about and how was it funded?

If you want help OP a bit of context might be good Smile

What kind of Court was it? Did you admit liability and make an offer of payment before the judgement?
