Universal credit childcare costs

I know my amount paid for this assessment period but how long am I supposed to wait for the childcare bit to be paid after I've submitted the proof? And yes it's in this assessment period so I know I should be paid it now (or should have been paid it)
And how long should it take them to reply to an journal note?

What are your assessment period dates?
Did you submit the childcare costs before the end of the assessment period?
When did you pay the childcare and what dates are on the childcare invoice?

Yes
I can't remember when I paid without looking!

I was just wondering how long is reasonable after submitting the proof to wait
And how long is reasonable to wait for them to reply to a journal note

If they’ve verified your childcare, you won’t really get a reply - you’ll just get the payment for it on your statement.

Depends how urgent it is. As a general rule, maybe 2 days for a payment.
Assume you must be working, so when you leave your journal message, make sure you leave it as ‘payment’ and not a ‘journal
message for the work coach’ as you probably won’t have one so won’t get a reply.

If you’ve not had a reply for 2 days, I’d ring the helpline and they will escalate it to your case manager for you.

Ok will ring them

Find the system so frustrating when this happens though because whenever I've rang in the past the person on the phone has never been able to help me (I don't really know why). Every time all they say is I'll pass a message onto to whoever person, when I've already done a journal note. So I'm not sure I get much further. Just frustrating.

But interesting about putting it as 'payment'
You think that works better?

@purpleme12 yes it should go straight to the right department. If itd a general journal note it takes ages before anyone reads them.

purpleme12 · 26/11/2025 19:37

Oh ok I can't see what I classified my note as now but perhaps I did put it as general note or something. I'll have to remember that

It’s because if you’re working, you won’t have a work coach assigned to your claim so your message won’t go to anyone.

A ‘payment’ journal message will go to a case manager and everyone has a case manager.

If it’s been 2 days, I’d definitely call.

Ok thanks
