I have received a letter telling me I'm being charged £63 for going 5p over my overdraft

Complete mistake, I miscalculated a direct debit and have gone 5p over my overdraft, no exaggeration. Received a letter today saying I am going to be charged a £35 fee plus £28 unauthorised overdraft fee. It is totally ridiculous in my mind, but do I have any case? Can I reclaim these bank charges or have I been stung for my own inattention to my bank account?

This happened to us once, I phoned the bank and explained (politely) what had happened and they cancelled the charges.

What kindersurprise said. I had similar - rang & pointed out that this was not usual behaviour, had been done to a specific issues & 'would they reconsider the charges' - they agreed on the spot.
Probably wouldn't work twice

yes, happened to me once, ring and they'll cancel.

I reckon the banks are sneaky and rely on a lot of people not noticing the charge on their bank account. Blame it on "computers just doing it automatically."

My arse.
