right in 2005 i was made bankrupt but discharged after six months.
the mortgage and everything was in my then partners name -we had only been together a year and the debt was not to do with him but a previous relationship.
since then we have moved house etc always in his name etc we now have a ds and i a sahm.
we got married in december and dh has just applied for a loan with barclays secured as we have house up for sale etc and we want to clear off cards and car loan but they have just turned us down cos of my bancruptcy he wanted to apply on his own [the mortgage is in his name only] but they said he could't cos he was married is that right????? and if so what are the implications for getting another mortgage ???

I got a mortgage in my name only despite being married .... was never an issue. DH was a student at the time so did not see the point of having him on it.

Have you got your discharge letter take this in so that they can see you have been discharged.
If you don't get in contact with the court where you bankruptcy was and see if they can sent you a duplicate letter.HTH

wingsofanangel i told him i was discharged and he said we still would not proceed because of the bankruptcy and that my name had to be on because we wer married and i was legally responsible for the loan as much as dh and because of my bankruptcy no way would they proceed [he was actually not very nice]

What a load of tosh.
A mortgage doesn't have to joint just because your married.
Can DP afford a mortgage on his earnings ?

Your dh can apply for a mortgage in his sole name, but a lot of lenders have tightened their criteria significantly.

If you have or have had any joint borrowing with you dh then that will affect his credit history.

In your shoes I would get your dh to contact a broker rather than dealing direct as hopefully you will be able to get good advice as to how tight the different lenders are being without a whole load of soft footprints over your credit file.

Bankruptcy stays on your Credit Reference Agency file for 6 years, although it should say that you are discharged.

It can continue to affect your ability to obtain credit for that time.
