I know I know I was expecting a bit of an increase but we changed to EDF in September and have been paying them £50 a month combined for gas and electric ever since.

Got a bill in today and they now want £125 a month until our annual review in September

When the swap to us woman came round we were paying Scottish Gas £60 a month combined and she changed it to £50 a month and said it may go up after the Winter I knew it would but not by so much.

This is just bloody electricity I expect they will do the same with gas theres no way we can go from £50 to £250 a month for gas and electic (well we could if we didn't have to eat).

I watch energy usage like a hawk only put the tumble drier on when desperate etc.

Same old moans as everyone else with petrol and food going up too.

That does sound a lot, even with rises in energy prices. Have they properly justified the rise? Can you get the review earlier than september - presumably that just means getting your meter read?

£50 a month was a bit low though, that would just cover my electric for the quarter and wouldnt cover our gas for 3 winter months.

Swap from DD and pay as you go. You therefore wont pay them in advance and can always put some money up monthly to cover the bill when it comes in.

Roughly we spend £130 a quarter on electric and last gas bill was £270 but that was winter so should start dropping over summer.

Prices are due to increase again soon as well if reports are to be believed.

I knew it was low but it's still a horrendous increase.

I will phone them tomorrow when I can face it.

We were paying £59 a month for elec and gas and got a letter on Friday saying it was going up to £101. I rang them as after looking at our past bills and the price rises I thought it couldn't be right. They said it should only be £68 but they wanted £101 for the next 4 months to pay a debit on the account accrued since the prices went up in feb. Why didn't they just say that in the letter......

Thats a huge jump and personally I wouldn't agree to it, not at the moment anyway.
Is there a figure you can afford to pay comfortably?

I was paying £65 a month DD for electricity, EDF wanted to put it up to £110 a month but I refused. They wanted it increased as we hadn't covered the cost of the years use, we had only underpaid by £20 at the end of the year.
I did agree to increase my DD to £80 a month but not a penny more. They agreed to that and thats how its been for the past 2 years.

Sweetkitty how much did you underpay by on your December and March bills? You need to look at how much you actually owe them on the bills....

I happened to check my bill today, I pay £68 a month all year round, not £80

When they under estimate a bill, its tempting to go with their quote. But it will have to paid in the end and it soon mounts up.
