Any recommendations out there? I need to make it as easy as possible to get the data, use it and change our spending patterns.
thx

Well, there is two. Emma which is free but you can upgrade. I have used Emma for six years and it's been really good and growing all the time. The second, is to move banks to Starling Bank. Is an app bank, very safe. It is free and you get interest on savings and also a break down of spending and spending pots to budget. You get a bank card etc and it's international. I was an early starter with Starling and its safe, secure good budgeter and brilliant staff to help

YNAB. Life changing for me and worth every penny.

Agree with YNAB, on the surface it looks expensive, but absolutely worth it. It's life changing.

YNAB!!!! Takes a little while to tweak it exactly how you need it but it’s amazing. Loads of excellent videos online about how to set it up to work for you depending on how you spend.

We have a joint account and 3 credit cards which we use to get points and pay off every month and it brings in every single transaction from all cards into one stream that you then assign to categories.

You then add all your income each month then allocate all the money into categories - we have over 70 categories!! Includes everything including all annual expenses and some longer term savings for holidays and even kids braces 😬

Starling is great - I use that for my business account - but it can’t bring credit card or multiple accounts into play like YNAB

lapuf · 14/09/2025 07:11

YNAB here too, used for over ten years. I’m a chartered accountant so I find it fun but the method is so clever and effective

thats all super helpful. Can it link in Paypal and net off the related bank transactions? That way I can see what the paypal items were?

@lapuf @FusionChefGeoff do you feel linking your accounts to YNAB is ok? safe?
