Universal Credit ans son going to university.

My son is going to university this year. I currently claim UC for 2 children.
I put on my journal asking about what I needed to do and I was told nothing as they would automatically remove him from my claim from 31st August.
Is this right?

I have been sent 2 To dos, one to Update childs education( showing date of 4th July) and one about Children and other people who live with you.

What do I put as the date for both, as was told 31st Aug by an advisor on my journal, but to dos seems to imply my claim for son finished in July?

Put 31 August if they told you to

does it mean your claim stops for him? X

Any child leaving education or going into higher education has the cut off date as 31st August. Your child benefit for him will also stop on this date.

Whilst he may have walked out of school in July, he didn’t formally finish secondary education until 31st August.

Children, or rather Qualifying Young Persons, come off UC on 31 August after they leave school. If you were caught by the two child rule you may need to verify the details of your youngest.

Everyone’s stops on August 31st as that’s the end of the school year. Officially. You don’t have to inform child benefit if it’s stopping because he’s going to university or to work because that’s the default. You do have to if they are not, like if he was doing an extra year at sixth form for example.
