I've googled, but am getting a bit of a blank - I'm unsure if domestic violence is treated differently than common assault.

stupid ex has broken his gfs toes (after she allegedly broke his ribs last weekend) and has finally called the police, so he's in custody am disgusted with the pair of them, but need to know what happens next as I'll probably need to concoct a bare faced lie for my 3 Dcs (I'm ok with telling them he's an alcoholic and might be going away for treatment, I'm not quite so hot with the 'daddy is inside' lie. I can get away with hospital if he gets convicted and faces a few months, I won't be able to keep that up for a year or so...)

sorry - this sounds all so Jeremy Kyle. anyone know what is likely to happen next?

Hi - there is no crime as such for domestic violence - it is mae up of common assault, abh, gbh and so on. So in this case it sounds like abh or gbh.

I can't help thinking that you should be honest with your dcs. Do they usually have a lot of contact with your ex?

PersephoneSnape · 25/05/2008 16:02

they did up until about three months ago they were doing alternate weekends, they had a huge fight when the kids were there and i stopped overnight contact. we'd been seeing him in the park/regular phone calls etc. I really don't think telling 8/10 year old boys that he's been banged up for domestic violence is in my capacity at the moment.

i need to go and read the cps pages - i agree probably a/gbh, gahd what a nightmare.
