What’s Reeves up to with ISA allowances?

I’ve read a couple of news items today suggesting she’s about to reduce the cash isa allowance significantly, allegedly hoping to encourage S&S isas.

This really pisses me off tbh. I won’t be putting money in S&S.

No it smacks of rushing things, which is not great, but in leadership it’s never weak to change your mind because you’ve listened to the people affected. What would you rather, they plough on regardless?! They’re not dictators.

Well they ploughed on regardless with VAT on fees which is also a fiscal policy with unintended negative consequences (for the government itself) that they were warned about by experts. But that was pure ideological not fiscal anyway.

I'd like to think a government who has come in promising fiscal responsibility and prudence and who spouts endlessly even a year on about a 'black hole' which is largely made up of their own unfunded promises (and which fails to recognise the global impact of such things like a little pandemic) would be very very careful and logical and strategic about what they propose and plan for.

Not vomit out ideas while desperately pandering to unions and trying to work around rash vows to not raise income tax even by a penny.

Articles today reporting she’s reconsidering her plan and the cash ISA limit will be reduced to £10k.
