How to get comfortable getting in the most debt you will be in?

Hi, I am 40 years old, on £60k and have no debt apart from my mortgage. I have some emergency savings. I am just about to borrow on my mortgage to extend my property from £145k to £180k (it's only a small 3x4 extension). This will put me in the most debt I've ever been in. How do you get mentally comfortable to put yourself in that situation? It doesn't help that I don't need the extension but feel I will regret it in later years if I don't do it. Thanks

Surely when you first took the mortgage out it was the most debt you had ever been in, so how did you get yourself comfortable with that?

If you can afford it, want/need it, it will enhance your life then it is one of the financial choices you make in life, or not.

Well I wouldn’t feel uncomfortable about it to start with so I wouldn’t have to make myself feel comfortable.
When you took on your mortgage you must have then been in the most debt you’d ever been in, so how did you make yourself comfortable with that at the time?

It's 3x your salary which is standard.
