Is it possible to have a loan while in an iva?

Would it be possible to get a loan while in an iva? I’m aware most places it probably wouldn’t be

Talk to your IVA adviser.

Mrsttcno1 · 21/06/2025 20:16

You’d struggle to get it agreed, and it wouldn’t be a good idea even if your IVA would allow it because any loan you manage to get the interest rate would be such that a £300 oven would probably end up costing you £1000+

Why on earth do you desperately need an oven? No microwaves and air fryers on your Facebook marketplace? If you’re about to stay you live in the arse end of now where what is the cost of an uber there and back to pick one up used or a trip to a. British heart foundation large shop?

@FirstTimeMum0 I would get a large airfryer for £140 - there really isn’t much you can’t do in one - even pizzas you can cut up

I agree I don't use the oven anymore. I've got a mini oven that does pizzas and cost just over £100, but my small red air fryer does all the other stuff I need.

UpUpUpU · 21/06/2025 20:26

Agree with those saying cheap air fryer. You absolutely do not need to take out a loan for £300 for an oven.

MinPinSins · 21/06/2025 20:27

Some councils have welfare assistance schemes for people in serious need. If you can't find any details, a local food bank (even if you don't use their services) should know what's available.

stargirl1701 · 21/06/2025 20:30

But one second hand for under £50.

legyeleven · 21/06/2025 20:30

Agree look on market place and buy a second hand air fryer. Will be more than adequate whilst you save for your oven

Geneticsbunny · 21/06/2025 20:35

Have you checked the element? They can be really cheap and pretty easy to replace.

maddiemookins16mum · 21/06/2025 20:42

Halogen Oven, £45.00. We cook everything in it, just the two of us. Our oven hasn’t been used since Christmas Day.

Chicheguevara · 21/06/2025 20:58

Generally, you need permission to get a loan, while in an IVA. the interest rate will be high if you do get permission.

My last oven was £20 on Facebook marketplace. I needed to clean it, but it lasted me years. There are cheaper options than a new cooker.
Best of luck finding something suitable.

Zofloramummy · 21/06/2025 21:02

Is it just the main oven that is broken? Does the hob still work? My oven broke 3 years ago and I use the air fryer, microwave and a cheap mini oven I got for £40. My hob still works though.

This currently has 20% off with the promo code so a mini oven/airfryer for £80

coolbreezes · 21/06/2025 22:48

It's summer, could you survive on meals that don't require an oven for a month or two while you save up for an air fryer or similar?

If you have a microwave you can do beans, jacket potatoes, rice etc in that.

TheFormidableMrsC · 21/06/2025 23:58

This is the one I mentioned earlier that I have. It’s fab! I’m a lone parent, one child

I went a year without a oven and had 2 young children. Couldn't afford to replace it. I used the stove top and bought a electric roaster, don't know if you have them in the UK. I baked Christmas cookies in it. You have got to be creative.

AlphaApple · 22/06/2025 08:01

Would you even be able to afford to make the payments?

BunnyRuddington · 22/06/2025 08:14

Ask in the food section what you can cook with what you’ve got.

Also try your local Auction house to see if they have any household/house clearance type auctions coming up. You can usually get good condition cookers and white goods at a fraction of the cost of new.

thetooththewholetooth · 22/06/2025 12:21

Do you need a new oven or can yours be fixed? If its the element it's really easy to replace yourself.

DSIL did this recently. She ordered the element, found a how to on YouTube and replaced it herself.
