Is the Car finance commission 'thing' true?

I've had a few cars in the past on a finance plan just due to my circumstances at the time. I keep seeing adverts that there is/will be some kind of compensation for the commission that was received by the garage? I'm not too sure of the details, but is this actually a real thing or just marketing hype?

If so, what do I need to do as I feel that the companies advertising this 'enter your Reg number now' will just take part of the money received, making them no better than the original garage!

First I've heard of this but, yes, it seems it may be! I consulted Martin Lewis: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/reclaim-car-finance/

Yes it’s legit. Lots of finance packages were missold. You don’t need to go through a company (who take a cut) to make a claim though. If you can remember some basic details you can do it yourself. I had my old Reg number and I remembered the finance was Black Horse, so went directly though them myself. I have been informed that my loan was one of those affected but we are now all awaiting a decision, which I think has been extended to the end of this year.

Yes it's true I've purchased 6 cars in this time frame all with close brothers.
I'm affected by this. Think we all will hear something in December 2025 about what is being done.
