Need to hire a solicitor for conveyancing - what's the best way to find one?

Yellow pages?

Law Society website?

How can i tell a 'good' one from a rubbish one who's going to rip us off? We got stuck with quite a dodgy 'i can't believe it's a law firm' last time and don't want to make the same mistake again..

personal recommendation

ask your friends and neighbours

yeap, I would go by personal recommendation. It might not stop you feeling ripped off (conveyancing is usually damned expensive for what you get - it's not rocket science, just a bit tedious and time consuming but straightforward) but at least you're less likely to run into big problems.

Personal recommendation - ask people who have sold/bought recently who they used and what they thought.

And generally try and find a solicitor who specialises in contencing, rather than a general practise solicitor.

And avoid convenyancing firms - use a proper solicitor instead.

i can recommend one if you like. but of course you dont know me so have no reason to trust my recommendation! it is not a friend/ relative just a solicitor we have used more than once and our families now use as she is so good and we have found to be the cheapest we have looked for too.

Oh and your conveyancer doesn't even have to be locl to you. Most solicitors can do it via email, letter and telephone.

I have a fab one I can recommend and have used several times but I'm on the South East
